We will study these in depth in this course. Behavior barriers: multiple internal and external barriers possible. I do not care about recycle/do not have access to a recycling bin: barriers differ between individuals. E. g. organic produce purchase barrier income for low-income population; time for suburban middle class: barrier differ between behaviors. E. g. buying organic produce vs. public transportation. Even in a similar class of behaviors! 65-70% would choose environment (not economic development) Measure with specific items e. g. i know i can recycle paper at emory. Measure with non-specific, self-describing items e. g. i am a recycling expert. Declarative knowledge specific knowledge about how the environment works. Procedural knowledge how to achieve sustainability goals. Social knowledge motives of others, moral (self-referential) or conventional (others, authority) Detection stage messages that help people determine whether a problem exists. Decision stage whether to take action/which action. Implementation stage ho(cid:449) to i(cid:374)tegrate (cid:271)eha(cid:448)iors i(cid:374)to o(cid:374)e"s life. 65% believe they are fairly well informed.
