THESIS SENTENCE: Belgium
INTRODUCTION
A. Who likes Godiva? Who likes French fries? Who likes waffles?
B. What all these product have in common is their land of origin.
C. Today I’m going to take you on a tour guide to Belgium. I’m going to talk about
Belgium in general, I’m going to compare it to United States and last but not least I’m
going to talk about what Belgium has to offer.
I. Belgium is a small kingdom, situated in West Europe
A. It’s located right under the North Sea and it borders Germany, the Netherlands,
Luxembourg and France.
B. It has 11million citizen for a surface of 11.787mi²
C. it has language borders, which divides the country in a north part Flanders and a south
part Wallonia.
TRANSITION: this information already gives you a little bit of an insight of Belgium, now
let’s get further
II. I always say that Belgium is the size of a peanut compared to America. So let’s compare this
little peanut to the large United States.
A. Like I said before we have 11million citizen for a surface of 11.787mi², while
Michigan alone already has 9,928,300million citizen for a surface of 96,716 mi²
1. United States has 50 states, we have 10 provinces.
2. We border with 1 sea, America borders with the north Atlantic ocean, the North
Pacific ocean and the gulf of Mexico
3. According to ‘de redactie’, a Belgian newspaper, who posted an article in 2016,
America has 2 Belgium’s, one in Wisconsin and another one in Illinois.
B. What we do have is a king, who rules the country together with the government
1. We have 3 official languages. Flemish (Dutch), French and German.
2. We have the Euro as our official currency, together with 18 other countries of the
28 European Union.
3. The legal drinking age is 16 and 18 for hard liquor.
TRANSITION: So what does Belgium has to offer.
III. Good food for sure.
A. Belgium is known for the chocolate (Godiva). French fries, who unlike the name says
aren’t from France. A wide variety of Beer, for whoever is legal to drink. Brussel
