Document Summary

3:57 pm with the exception for silk all natural fibers are staple length. All manufactured fabrics are made in filament length and cut into staple length. Hydrophobic: does not absorb water easily (nylon, polyester, Hydrophilic: absorbs water easily. (cotton, rayon, acetate ) Rayon and acetate are cellulosic fibers--- plant based. Wool will not absorb water at first but eventually will. Softens when heat is applied & will eventually melt. (can be positive, when we want to have a sharp crease) Combustible: a fiber that burns easily/catches on fire easily. All cellulosic fibers will behave the same way. Wool will go out by itself if caught on fire. Not all of cellulosic fibers are natural/manufactured they are both. Milk is the only manufactured protein based fiber. You need to know the characteristics of the fibers. The characteristics of the fibers will determine the characteristics of your fabrics. Always need to be concerned about the price.
