Document Summary

Location of broca"s area left hemisphere, frontal lobe, superior to temporal lobe, inferior to prefrontal cortex. Galvanic and polygraph skin response detect arousal in humans, not lies. "frowning makes me sad, smiling makes me happy" Name the 3 components of an emotional response and describe what they are. ----behavioral: muscular movements appropriate to the situation (e. g. dog defending its territory) ---autonomic: serves to facilitate behavior; provides fast mobilization of energy for movement (e. g. increased heart rate, increased blood flow to muscles) ---hormonal: reinforce or support autonomic response (e. g. norepinephrine increases blood flow to muscles) ---lateral nucleus: gateway for sensory input from neocortex, thalamus, hippocampus; output to basal and central nuclei, ventral striatum, dorsomedial nucleus of the thalamus, ventromedial frontal cortex. ---basal nucleus: output to central nucleus, ventromedial frontal cortex. --central nucleus: output to hypothalamus, midbrain, pons, medulla. Central nucleus is critical for responses to aversive stimuli. -stimulation electrically or with drug leads to signs of agitation and fear.
