Document Summary
Module 6 notes collecting data for curriculum development. Finch and crunkilton (1999) emphasize the need for curriculum development data collection related to school and community needs and issues. Below is a brief summary of their major points in data collection. Identification of resources such as: funding facilities and equipment: human resources, clinical facilities, energy conservation, safety, people with disabilities, and program flexibility. Other areas which should be considered for data collection include cultural heritage, field of knowledge, institutional requirements, and professional association requirements. Before curriculum development begins, it is a good idea to consider the cultural heritage of the students who will be enrolling in your program. Areas to consider include language, concept of time, education philosophy, religion, marital status, values systems, and cultural medicine. Language is usually the biggest problem when dealing with culturally diverse students. United states is known as the world"s melting pot, where many cultures, nationalities, and languages abound.
