Document Summary

Renal/ urinary- filter blood: filtrate (is filtered out) > ex. urine. Neuro- begins at neuron: a. p. (action potential) is triggered: cns (central nervous system)- brain and spinal cord, pns (peripheral nervous system)- spinal and cranial nerves. Cardiovascular: cardiology, angiology, arteries > supply, veins > drain, hematology, fluid ct, formed elements, rbc"s, wbc"s, platelets. Principle > valves in heart (prevent backflow in the chambers) Chemicals (simplest: atoms, subatomic particles, (p,n, e, biomolecules, proteins, carbs, lipids, nucleic acids, building blocks of components of the cell. Maintaining boundaries- internal/external: plasma membrane- separates intracellular fluid from extracellular fluid, skin- separates internal environment from external environment. Responsiveness- stimuli/ response (reaction time > decreases with age) Movement: somatic, voluntary, skeletal muscle, oculi muscle, diaphragm/ intercostals, pharyngeal constrictors, visceral. Involuntary: peristalsis, heart contractions, blood pressure/ vasoconstriction, a. n. s. (autonomic nervous system) Growth- increase in biomass/ differentiation: zygote > embryo > fetus, stem cells. Digestion- break down of ingested food: nutrients feed cells, eat to live/ live to eat.
