PCB 2099 Lecture Notes - Lecture 51: Mesothelioma, Glycogenolysis, Glycogen
Document Summary
Principal "traffic director" for cellular proteins, ups of the cell. Receives whatever is produced or secreted from the rer. Digests particles taken in by endocytosis, degrade worn-out or nonfunctional organelles/break down nonuseful tissues. The cells that form this kind of epithelial tissue are secretory. Composed of close packed cells; tiny amount of extra-cellular material in narrow spaces between them. Tight junction: heavily involved in creating barriers close to the top of the cell or the apex. Gap junctions: allow for open communication between neighboring cells, allowing particles to move from one cell to the other. Simple (1 layer, for absorption, filtration, and thin barrier) or stratified (2+ layers, common in high abrasion areas) Squamous (w>h, flat nucleus), cuboidal (w=h, spherical nucleus), or columnar (h>w, vertical nucleus) Simple squamous epithelium that provides frictionless lining in the blood vessels and chambers of the heart.
