Encoding- creating, organizing, producing, the message (the process of converting thoughts into words) After the message is encoded it is sent to the receiver. The receiver is the recipient of the sources message or the audience. Decoding is the process of interpreting the message. Audience members then decode the message selectively based off their own experiences and attitude. The audience then gives feedback, which is the audiences response to the message which can be conveyed verbally and nonverbally. The message is the content of the communication process: thoughts and ideas put into meaningful expressions, verbally and non verbally. The channel is the medium the speaker sends a message. (telephone, television, computers) All speeches are delivered in response to a specific rhetorical situation. Rhetorical situation- circumstance calling for a public response. Audience centered- keeping the needs, values, attitudes, and wants of your listener firmly in focus.
