The combination of qualities of a sound that distinguishes it from other sounds of the same pitch and volume. The timbre of a tone tells you if it is a trumpet or a violin. The length of a sound, or how long we perceive it to be. Also known as dynamics, the strength of a pitch. How quickly a sound reaches its loudest point.
