CCJ-3011 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Burglary
Document Summary
Crime by age, sex, race, class and place. The lecture notes this week are quite a bit shorter than in recent weeks. That is because when this class is presented on campus the tables described below are displayed for the class and students are asked to offer explanations for the patterns apparent in the tables. The discussion question this week will ask you to do the same. We can describe the distribution of crime by certain offender characteristics such as age, sex, and race. Consider first the age of offenders as described in table 1. Probably the best source of such data would be the age of persons arrested even though as we noted previously, arrest is several steps removed from the actual crime event. Crime by age of offenders, 2009, peak age for arrests and decline by age 24.
