GLY-1102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Pterosaur, Protein Structure, Mesozoic
Document Summary
Known from non-marine and near shore marine deposits of triassic cretaceous age. Extremely enlongated 4th digit to form wing, supported by unknown, probably protein structure. Pteroid bone, sets them apart, new structure, origin unknown. Skin attached to body somewhere between waist and hind wing. Rhamphorynchoids small pidgeon sized, skinny heads and long tails, triassic to jurassic. Pterodactyloids small to huge, short tails, long fused metacarples, sometimes elaborate head crests, lack of teeth, jurassic cretaceous. Mosasaurs related to lizards, jurassic to cretaceous. Feeding (small fish, large fish, amniotes, shellfish, vegetation, etc. ) Reproduction (come out of water to lay eggs or some form of internalized reproduction) One fossil record that gives evidence to live birth. Looks like the (cid:272)ross (cid:271)etween a dolphin and an alligator fu(cid:272)k. Wrong gender, wrong religion, and wrong social class to be a scientist (at that time) Sold fossils for money, after describing them in personal journals.
