GEB-3213 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Adhan, Holding Company, Eye Contact
Document Summary
Business etiquette and culture in arab business meetings. Appearance: a clean, neat, appropriately dressed individual conveys a positive self-image, knowledge and competence. A dirty, careless or inappropriately dressed person conveys the message that he does not care about his or her look. Visitors are expected to abide by local standards of modesty. Despite the heat, most of the body must always remain covered. The modesty of your clothing is extremely important in the middle east for women and men. Be mindful not to wear revealing clothes (including open-toed shoes) and to cover your shoulders, arms and legs. A jacket and tie are usually required for men at business meetings. Men should wear long pants and a shirt (long-sleeved, buttoned up to the collar) Dark colors are seen as more professional. Avoid wearing visible jewelry (particularly around the neck) Women should always wear modest clothing in public.
