In order to be a disorder it must: Habit reversal applied to nervous habits, tics, stuttering. Awareness training: first taught to describe the behaviors and then to identify when the habit occurs (or when it is about to occur) Social support: others help prompt the competing response and praise outside of the session. Motivation procedures: reviews with the client all situations in which the habit occurs and how it can cause distress/embarrassment (establishing eos and aos) Competing response replaces habit behavior (maybe combination of the three: ch. Involves the systematic use of conditioned reinforcers called tokens. Used to increase desirable behaviors in educational setting or treatment program. May be used with response cost to decrease undesirable behaviors as well. Goal to teach and maintain prosocial behavior and eliminate antisocial behavior.
