We think something, but the majority of the other people are doing x so we begin to think that is the good or right way to act: social validation study: try to get recycle more. Went into some rooms and put the standard sign in the bathroom with saying help save the environment . In other rooms they put another sign that said partner with us . No difference in the amount of people reusing. 3rd sign said the majority of guest who stayed in our hotels have reused their towel at least once. Produced a 33% increase in people reusing their towels. More people likely to comply if they believe others are doing the same. The 3rd sign gave it credibility: people more likely to give in to social influence when there is only one option available.
