Psy 2012- lecture 11- psychological and biological treatment. Etiology: causal factor or origin of an illness. Exposure and response prevention: work for compulsion. Help reduce bad thought and increase positive behaviors. Depression: depression: depressed mood and loss of interest, cause: neurotransmitter(serotonin), psychosocial variables, and cognitive styles, treatment: cbt; distorted thoughts about self. Environment and future: behavioral change: engage in fun activity, problem solving skills: breaking problems, and being realistic, biomedical approach: mao inhibitors, tricyclics, ssris, they block specific neurotransmitter like serotonin. Light exposure because of seasonal affective disorders and work well in the morning. Mdd and bipolar disorder at higher risk for suicide than most disorders. Interpersonal theory of suicide: capable for suicide: expose to painful event or experience, feel isolated, feeling of burden: other people will be better without them, desire to do it. Unexpected anxiety attacks that involve dizziness, breathless, trembling and fear of dying. Agoraphobia: fear that you will not find help in public when in difficulty.
