Nothing inherently creates the stigma, but it is the social response to the condition or
the type of individual who suffer from it
But why do they get stigmatized?
Contested
Diseases that are not recognized or acknowledged, particularly by physicians (e.g.
chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome).
Do not receive benefits even though they qualify because they meet the
requirements of “the inability to do ‘usual and customary work’”
Disability
Social construct. It is the social experience and meaning of impairment
The body has impairment while society creates the disability
Using a wheelchair in a not so wheelchair friendly setting
