Concerned that sometimes deliberation is a bad thing when we want to get to the truth or have individual judgments. Deliberation means that all considerations get shared evidence and reasons shared. Individuals can only see part of the story, groups can share information and get to see more than individuals. Criticisms and responses to criticisms deliberation corrects errors, uncovers presuppositions, and sometimes transmits new evidence. Solomon has concerns over reliability of deliberation. Talking and sharing reasons can be source of errors. Groupthink: when a group has to develop a single view to stand for everyone"s view, social pressures may lead the group to be unreliable. Social pressures can distort process of making good judgment. Failure of some members of the group to share information intimidation, shyness, etc. Solomon is attacking idea that deliberation is a way to reach the truth. Solomon asch"s conformity experiments: conformity, authority, obedience.
