Industrial culture has 4 factors: more material wealth, more pollution, more robotization, more free time. Time difference in agriculture vs. industrial culture. Agriculture tells time via seasons: growing, harvesting, winter, planting, also told by the sun. Industrial culture tells time via production: based on commodities. What"s produced to be bought and sold at a profit: also based on shifts and bells. Clock vs. cyclical time: factory could run 24/7 because it goes by clock and not the earth. Placing clock in control tower is symbolic. High up so everyone can see it: build our day around the clock, also closer to god. Clock on church is also symbolic: church is very powerful, organizes prayer time, paves way towards clock being regulatory social control. 1750 england kicks off industrial revolution: previous to that europeans discover money in shipping people like goods.
