Immanuel kant and leo tolstoy are from 2 different eras, yet both are thought to be the greatest philosophers of our time. Even though the two men were on different paths; without. If it wasn"t for kant"s theory of free thinking, tolstoy and other philosophers wouldn"t have had the ability to free themselves from societies tight grip. Tolstoy believed that the high authority was controlling the people just as kant did. They both thought that if the people saw their own truth and freed themselves to independent thought they would have animosity towards leading figures who fed them falsehoods. He"s verifying that the lower class/surfs were being treated injustice. What fascinated tolstoy the most was despite the surfs horrible treatment, they still had faith in god and still remained hopeful. Tolstoy"s status wouldn"t possibly know the half of what the surfs were dealing with but he was interested.
