Jerome lives like an ascetic in a lot of ways. Peter brown (the body and society) & elizabeth clark. Gregory the great says that women who have been raped are not less holy. But women who are true virgins should still go before the church first. Jerome says that anything physical and/or sexual is an offense whereas augustins only speaks of sex. Jovinian says that god doesn"t demand chastity of us, but recommends it. If you get married and have sex, you are not less than those that choose not to. There are 2 creation stories: men and women were created together, man was created first, and then woman was created from man. It is not bad that woman is subordinate to man.
