People around the globe do not have equal access to drinking water. On a global basis, 1 in 6 lives without access to safe drinking water. 80% of illness in developing countries is water related (chlorosis in india) 5 million people die each year from diseases associated with unsafe drinking water. Majority of these deaths take place in developing part of world. Drinking water guidelines and regulations in canada - enforced. The guidelines for canadian drinking water quality indicate that good quality water is free from: disease causing organisms, harmful substances and radioactive material. Water provided from human consumption requires treatment in order to make it safe (potable) and good tasting (palatable). The failure to provide treatment facilities that remove pathogens and microorganisms contribute to a high incidence of disease and death in the developing world. In may 2000, improper water treatment lead to contamination of e. coli in water resources causing 23000 illnesses and 6 deaths.
