Language is learned like everything else through reward and punishment. Parents correct and there by mildly punish incorrect utterances. Gradually, the incorrect speech disappears and the correct utterances become predominant. Humans are born with a language acquisition device (lad) that facilitates learning a language. The human brain is hardwired to recognize language and sound patterns. Over regularization shows that human learn rules and not individual cases. All humans learn language rather quickly and easily. Language develops across a variety of cultures at the same ages. Theory is the oldest taught in psychology (120 years) Much of psychology had not been discovered yet. Freud dies in 1939 and can"t change the theory. Freud grew up in a very different time than us. Sex was very strange in victorian time. Sexual repression was common in some groups.
