Document Summary
Imagine you have a 15 year old client who is brought in by her parents because of her extreme shyness in the past year. She has become increasingly anxious about social situations, avoiding friend"s birthday parties, and most recently even family functions. Her fear of social situations is both consistent and severe (cursing and screaming when forced to go out) You do this interview on the phone and when you finally see her, she clearly has severe acne. Behavioral: a person has a negative social experience, a person becomes conditioned to fear certain situations which the person then avoids. People with social anxiety disorder appear to have unrealistically harsh views of their social behaviors. Overly negative beliefs about the consequences of their social behaviors. They pay more attention to how they are doing in social situations and their own internal sensations than other people do.
