i. It takes about an hour to build an igloo
with the whole family helping.
1. The children are bored during this
process, so for Nanook's family, it was just
the three of them to build one.

puppies to protect them from the dogs.
iii. Nanook licks his knife to coat it in saliva
to harden the knife so that it cuts through the snow
easily.
iv. The best snow for building an igloo is
deep, hard packed snow
v. Nanook builds the mainframe of the
igloo by cutting out blocks of snow. Then his, wifes
would fill in the gaps with snow. Once the dome
was done, Nanook would push a door out, and go
cut out a block of ice to make into a window. He
used excess snow to reflect light into the igloo

i. When going to the trading post, Nanook
fit his two wives, children and puppies into the
kayak. Nanook was kayaking, one child laid on the
boat(This is seen later as well, when Nanook
offers another fisherman back to his home), and
everyone else is in the kayak.
ii. To stop the kayak, he used the ice to
break by using his oar to catch the kayak.
c. Boat
i. It's made out of driftwood then covered
with sealskin.
ii. When going to the trading post, the
whole family must carry the boat to the river.
iii. The larger boat can carry up to 15
people. It can be taken to the ocean.
3. Tools
a. Walrus Knife
i. It is made from walrus ivory.
ii. The wives have another one, but it is
smaller.
b. Spear
i. Nanook uses this tool for a lot of tasks.
He uses it to stab fish and the walrus, to check
how stable the snow it, and to stop his kayak from
moving.
