Document Summary

Study abroad in nicaragua: deadline is march 10th to apply. Plan: how to build a matrix model, what w can learn from a matrix model, demography - life cycle diagram and matrix models using r studio. R0 = net reproductive rate (avrg number of female offspring produced per female or reproductive unit over course of its lifespan. Demography: demography of a population - age or stage structure of a population and survival, fertility, and other rates associated with those ages or life history stages, life cycle diagrams, life cycle tables, etc. Life cycle diagrams: each circle = an age class, each arrow = transitions between age classes or stages. Variations in life cycle diagrams: age-structured models, stage-structured models. Leslie matrix: can be used to summarize information about the age-speci c survival and fertility rates of a population. Lefkovitch matrix: similar to leslie matrix, except allows for stage-structured models.
