Ego defense mechanisms: freud: 3 types of anxiety. 2 other types- intrapsychic threatening to break through to conscious, fuzzy/unclear energy, unsettling something you want and ignore ego (reality, middle) and increase in anxiety as event is to occur. Neurotic: id-ego con ict, id creates energy and ego is trying to deal with it & Moralistic: id-superego con ict, feeling of guilt in pit of stomach, try to justify. Commonly seen in vets & how they deal with what they went through. Repression/suppression: hostility (davidson), distort, repression & coping with (coifman et al ) Repression: all engage, some use it more than others.
