Class of treatable disorders associated with extremes in either undereating or overeating. Ednos eating disorders not otherwise specified people with combinations of behaviors seen certain eating disorders: know the difference between these. Stems from psychological conflict between consuming food and body image. 7% of people with anorexia die from suicide within 10yrs of diagnosis. The rest of diagnosed have a continual battle the rest of their life. Transition into adulthood: physical changes associated with puberty. Typically white female, middle to upper socioeconomic class: refusal to eat enough to maintain acceptable weight, often described as responsible, meticulous, obedient, competitive and obsessive, complains of delayed puberty, fatigue, and depression. Early warning signs: dieting becomes main focus, abnormal self-perceptions and eating habits, range of foods consumed narrows, withdrawing socially, becomes hypercritical. Physical affects: weight less than 85% expected (120 lbs expected; actual weight 100, physical/physiological effects: Intervention (nutritional and psychological therapy: nutrition therapy. Hospitalization when person falls below 75% of expected weight.
