격식체 -습니다
● –습니다, -습니까?
● Formal polite speech
● ‘-습니다’ or ‘-습니까?’ is used to express respect to the listener in official or formal
situations such as announcements, news reports, speeches, business meetings,
conferences and in the military.
● ‘-습니다’ is used for a statement, and ‘-습니까?’ for a question.
● ‘-을 겁니다’ or ‘-을 겁니까?’ is used to speak about the future.
● ‘-을 겁니까’ or ‘-을 겁니까?’ is used with stems ending in a consonant and ‘-ㄹ
겁니다’ or ‘-ㄹ겁니까?’ with stems ending in a vowel.
○ Ex:
■ 읽다 → 읽을 겁니다
● 을 겁니까?
■ 가다 → 갈 겁니다
● 갈 겁니까?
● ‘-읍시다’ is used to express a suggestion or proposition.
