Formal polite speech
-습니다’ or ‘-습니까?’ is used to express respect to the listener in official or formal
situations such as announcements, news reports, speeches, business meetings,
conferences and in the military.
-습니다’ is used for a statement, and ‘-습니까?’ for a question.
- 겁니다’ or ‘- 겁니까?’ is used to speak about the future.
- 겁니까’ or ‘- 겁니까?’ is used with stems ending in a consonant and ‘-
겁니다’ or ‘-ㄹ겁니까?’ with stems ending in a vowel.
Ex:
읽다 읽을 겁니다
겁니까?
가다 겁니다
겁니까?
-읍시다’ is used to express a suggestion or proposition.
