Austen"s role in literary history is important not only because of the quality of her prose, but because of her lasting influence which is made evident through the numerous adaptations of her work. We will examine how austen uses her novels of manners to make a larger social commentary about british society at the turn of the 18th century, a social commentary than translates to current day.
