Language is ordinary: we use auditory perception, same as listening to other non- linguistic sounds; we use memory and reasoning as we produce and comprehend language. At birth, children can distinguish between all phonemes but lose this as they age. Overgeneralize: why might children categorize doggy as cats, dogs, squirrels, they first memorized words and then pick up on patterns on grammatical rules.
