Hypothalamus activates sympathetic nervous system: pituitary gland stimulates other glands in order to release hormones. Activated by hypothalamus: hypothalamus pituitary glands other glands hormones. On top of genetics; environment is seen as layered over genetics: genes themselves ay not be changed by environment but instructions for gene expression can be coded and passed down. How genes and environment interact to influence psychological activity: twin studies, adoption studies, psychological disorders often polygenic (influenced by many genes) with small effects of each of them. Importance of unconscious motivations: structure of personality. Id: ego, superego, unconscious conflicts anxiety, psychosexual stages, develop through sequence of stages; each stage has developmental task; disorder when become fixated . Behavioral: classical conditioning, operant conditioning, modeling and observational learning. Cognitive: people"s thoughts are most immediate or powerful influence on their behavior, types of cognition, casual attributions, control beliefs, dysfunctional assumptions.
