A 20 year old that gets infected today is expected to live for another 50 years. This might reduce or even eliminate transmission of the virus, but some people may still transmit the virus: hiv cure is unlikely; hiv provirus integrates into host cell dna and remains there for life. Some infected cells become quiescent, latent reservoirs: memory cd4+ cells, brain cells, lymph nodes: shock and kill approach. Activate all dormant dna in cells to allow the replication and production of hiv from reservoirs. Now these cells become vulnerable to immune cells and anti-retroviral drugs; this way we can eliminate the reservoirs by forcing hiv out of hiding.
