As explained in the craft of research section 14. 5, there are two basic citation patterns: author-title: annes, lee j. The author-title system stresses the author of the source and the title of the source. That is, who wrote it and what it is. The author-title system is most commonly used in the humanities where the focus in on interpretation and analysis of historical events and texts. As new insights can reframe old scholarship, humanities scholarship can have a long shelf-life. For instance, the rediscovery of lost folk tales can lead to a reclassification of how various folktales relate to one another, and this in turn affects previous interpretations of folktales based on the old classification systems. The author-date system stresses the author of the source and the date the source was published. The most common author-date citation systems are apa and chicago manual of style (cms)
