On most feature lms sound is recorded on a separate audio recorder. Many indie lms and a lot of tv are recorded directly onto the camera shots must be logged. A time code slate is usually used so that the audio can be synced to video or lm. To jam the slate means to sync the timecode on the slate to the time code on the camera. You use a jamming cable between the camera and the slate and it makes it so they have the exact same numbers. Black and white tv in america scanned at 30fps. Color tv changed the rate to 29. 97fps to deal with the extra information that color needed in the signal. The result was the 29. 97 increased an hour of programming by 3. 6 seconds. Broadcasters created drop frame time code to deal with this increase. A lot of people use the 24fps because it gives you more a lm look.
