Women started having less children because the mortality rate was rising for children and pregnant women. Men focused on bartering items for food and held all the power in the government system. Women focused on keeping the household steady and only held control domestically. Kids provide a higher emotional value now so it is sadder for the parents when children die. Men were preferred because they came with inheritance. Girls were married off before the age of 18 and were always under the rule of their patriarch. Children were more educated than past civilizations since religion, literature, and art was emerging. Love in marriages was increasing and sometimes women wrote love poems about men and vice versa. Women"s families provided a dowry to cover expenses of the husband"s household. Women"s families also paid for the lavish weddings.
