Women: started having less children because the mortality rate was rising for children and pregnant women, focused on keeping the household steady and only held control domestically. Men: focused on bartering items for food and held all the power in the government system. Kids provide a higher emotional value now so it is sadder for the parents when children die. Sons were preferred because they came with inheritance. Girls were married off before the age of 18 and were always under the rule of their patriarch. Children were more educated than past civilizations since religion, literature, and art was emerging. Love in marriages was increasing and sometimes women wrote love poems about men and vice versa. Women"s families: provided a dowry to cover expenses of the husband"s household, paid for the lavish weddings. The man would express interest in the woman and have his parents go speak to the woman"s parents to make sure there was approval.
