Empiricism: information is collected via one of the major senses (touch, feel, hear taste, or see the information) Data: information collected via the senses (usually thoughts, feelings or behaviors) Theory: an abstract generalization that provides an explanation for a set of facts. Falsifiable (testable): there is the possibility that the theory can be disproved in order for it to be a scientific theory. Hypothesis: a prediction that a certain outcome will occur under a specific set of conditions. Test the hypothesis by creating those situations and then generating data. Correlational study: one in which you observe the relationship between two variables (usually at a single point in time) Positive correlation: both variables increase or both variables decrease at the same time (i. e. as a woman"s attitude about gender roles becomes more traditional the amount of household chores that she does increases)
