Women"s math scores have increased in the 20th century. Sex differences in math vary across cultures. Historically more men than women attended college. In 2007 42% of women and 36% of males between 18-24 were enrolled in college. In the same year 57% of the bachelors degrees were awarded to women. In minority groups (such as african americans and hispanic americans) the sex disparity is even higher- in favor of women. Women are more likely to receive bachelor degrees in elementary education and nursing. Men are more likely to receive bachelor degrees in stem fields. The achievement motive: a stable personality characteristic that reflects the tendency to strive for success. Measured by people"s responses to a thematic apperception test (tat) People view a scene on a card and write a story about it. The content of the story is then coded for themes related to the achievement motive.
