Lecture #8 | 2/20/2017 | jewish law continued. The law is all encompassing and involves all aspects of life. The law relates to different aspects of life, ie agricultural, political, domestic relations, etc. Jews consider every time they perform the law an example of worship. Most holy days have their roots in the bible. Holy days described in the bible are interpreted by the rabbis. Many of these holy days are commemorations of interactions between god and the israelites. Commemorating the exodus from egypt is a reminder to jews that. God is loving, and reminds them why they follow god in a covenantal relationship. Community has to repair itself before standing before god. Sabbath - mentioned multiple times in the bible. One day every week that a jew reflects on how god created the world. Rosh hashanah (celebration of the new year) Commemoration of receiving the revelation at sinai. Hanukkah is not based on the books of moses.
