The word renaissance is french and means rebirth . It was a time in which people rebuilt things to replicate the art of the roman empire. During the renaissance, there was a shift from a religious perspective to a humanist perspective. Humanist perspective (humanism): the focus on the importance of human beings instead of religious or supernatural matters. Thus, the renaissance period is when scientific thought started to become more popular. Religious themes still pervaded throughout the lives of people during this period, however there was more secular thought, art, and music here than in the middle ages. Galilei and copernicus: they both made discoveries that furthered science, however, the catholic. Idealized idea of beauty, even if it doesn"t correspond to reality. Technically it"s better crafted than the art of the middle ages. Drawing style had more of an emphasis on depth perception (being able to see a foreground, middle ground and background within a painting)
