Qualification: 35 years of age, natural-born citizen, 14-year resident. Term of office: 4-year term, 22nd amendment: 2 terms or 10 years. Presidential succession: presidential succession act 1947, vice president -> speaker of the house -, 25nd amendment. In case of the removal of the president from office or of his death or resignation, the vice president shall become president. Commander-in-chief: constitutional authority, commander of army, navy, militia, commissions officers get to pick who the leader for army, navy, and militia, expansion of power, limits. Increasing role in global affairs: only congress can declare war. Haven"t declare war since wwii: congress must fund any military action, war powers act. Congress must be notified and approved of troop deployments. Congress doesn"t really vote against troops because they don"t want to be anti- troops. Chief diplomat: constitutional authority, sign treaties, appoints ambassadors, limits, senate have to ratify the treaties, confirmation of ambassadors, funding, expansion of power, executive agreements.
