SPCH 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Inflection
Document Summary
Natural and uncontrived- there is a flow in your speech, it sounds natural, and it does not bring attention to yourself. The audience listens, understands, remembers, and acts on the speech. The speaker builds a sense of community with the audience- showing that you are concerned and what you are saying is sincere. The voice can give the audience insight into the speaker"s personality and when used efficiently the voice will keep the audience interested: volume, pitch, rate, pauses, articulation and enunciation, pronunciation, inflection. The body influence"s the first impressions of the speaker and can indicate when there is a transition in the speech: physical appearance- the audience will make an impression of you based on your physical appearance. Having consistent eye contact also shows respect and seriousness. Impromptu presentation: when a speaker has little or no time to prepare for their speech and they must do it naturally: this presentation style shows how people adjust in difficult circumstances.
