Document Summary

Hormone receptor complex created, complex binds to dna in nucleus, activates dna- transcription-translation- protein synthesis- production. Response time is slow due to dna interaction. Do not dissolve in blood, requires carrier protein- then moved around in blood: water soluble hormones: (most biogenic amines and protein hormones) Receptors in pm that hormone(first messenger) binds to. Response time is faster i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi. vii: dissolves in blood and freely floats. 2 explain the difference between up-regulation and down-regulation: up regulation: increase number of receptors(reduced hormone concentration in blood, down regulation: decrease number of receptors(elevated hormone concentration in the blood) depends on what the body needs. Activity of one, reinforces the activity of another hormone: example: estrogen/progesterone, permissive: activity of one hormone is dependant on another. Release hormone in response: elevated blood glucose stimulates pancreas to release insulin. Neural stimulation : least common- release of hormone in response to nervous system stimulation.
