Document Summary

Geographers attempt to accurately represent the world we live in through maps: maps visualize spatial distribution and movement. John snow"s map of cholera in 1855 was one of the first to overlay information onto a map. Geographical knowledge: understanding interaction, connection, and implication, not just ability to place things on a world map. Geographic illiteracy is a big issue because we make very important decisions about resources, land, transportation, cultural relations, etc. without fully understand world. Any map will distort: size, area, distance, direction. Cartographers make decisions about information and how to display it.
