Perception: the method by which sensations experienced at any given moment are interpreted and organized in some meaningful fashion. Perceptual constancies: size constancy: interpret as the same size, shape constancy: consider dimensions to be the same shape, brightness constancy: perceive the brightness of an object remains the same. Death perception: ability to perceive the work in 3d. Monocular cues: cues for perching depth based on one eye only: linear perspective, relative size. Interposition: aerial perspective, texture gradient, motion parallax, accommodation. Factors that influence perception: perceptual set: tendency to perceive things a certain way because previous experiences or expectations influence those perceptions, top-down processing, bottom-up processing. Illusion: a perception that does not correspond to reality (muller-lyer illusion) Eeg: allows scientist to see brian activity: beta waves: the conscious state, alpha waves: between our conscious thinking (beta) and subconscious (theta) mind, theta waves: progress to deeper sleep, delta waves: deepest sleep.
