Document Summary

Schizophrenia is a severe psychological disorder characterized by illogical, or incoherent thoughts, catatonic behavior and disorganized speech, and delusions or hallucinations. (apa, 2013). Hallucinations include hearing voices such as described by. Thomas szazs, a psychiatric theorist who states schizophrenic hallucinations as, if you talk to god, you are praying. If god talks to you, you have schizophrenia (comer, r. ). People with schizophrenia may hear voices that other people don"t and they believe that other people are controlling their thoughts, reading their minds, or are out to harm them. This can make them feel petrified, paranoid and agitated or withdrawn from the real world (nimh, 2013). Studies show and expert believe that schizophrenia is caused by many factors. Some contributory factors have been traced back to genetics, different brain chemistry and structure, environment and, psychological or social processes (nimh, 2013). Only one percent of american population has this mental disorder.
