Document Summary

Randomization means each participant has an equal opportunity to end up in the experimental or control conditions. Manipulation of the independent variable (the experimental condition vs. control), while everything else stays the same. Two variables appear to be related to each other but there is another factor like the sun. Your hypothesis is made up of 2 constructs, 2 variables, 2 concepts. Examples from class: more discrimination more substance abuse. Turning those constructs into variables you can measure is called operationally defining your variables: be as specific as you can with your operation definitions. The arrow represents a prediction: predictor variables = independent (iv, predicted variables (outcome) = dependent (dv) In experimental design the independent variable is the one that the researcher manipulates to create an experiment the control conditions. But sometimes juts interested in how two variables relate to each other. Validity refers to how much our study reflects truth or reality.
