Document Summary
The convention on the rights of the child was the first document specifically meant for children, to address the civil, cultural, economic, political, and social rights of the child of every child around the world. Prior to the treaty, the united nations advocated for the fundamental freedoms for all humans regardless of gender, race, or age. The universal declaration of human rights was the first international treaty, which set the groundwork for the crcs. T he udhr stated that childhood is entitled to special care and protection. Declaration created rules and practices that should be kept for all individuals, it is not legally binding and serves more as a moral compass. The year of 1979 was declared the international year of the child by the united nations. The working group consisted of members of unicef, ngos, and forty-eight member states. Active in over 190 countries, unicef is an organization that promotes the wellbeing of children.
