Document Summary

Professor schwartz tries to take attendance daily and allows 2 unexcused absences a semester. Criminal justice studies the system of law enforcement. Criminology studies the origin, extent and nature of crime in society. Today it is social control, either formal or informal. The modern era of justice can be traced back to research projects done in the early. This was also when the term criminal justice system started to focus on the criminal justice process: the discovery and the analysis of the discretion. Crime and violence have been common as far back as we know. Such as hammurabi"s code which dates back to ancient babylonian times. Crime rate may actually have been much higher in the 19th and 20th century than today. Between 1900 and 1935 we saw a sustained increase in criminal activity. 1300 to 1900, then from 1900 to 1940 it shot up quickly, then from 1940 to current it became steady again.
