PSYC 4353 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Pentobarbital, Ketamine, Glutamate Transporter
Document Summary
Movement at the junction neuromuscular juncture (nmj) Movement- planning & initiation: lack da = Coa (from mitochondria) add enzyme: choline acetyltransferase (chat) ach. Can get choline from darker leafy greens. Metabolites: choline (taken back into the presynaptic neuron) + acetic acid. Choline is a precursor and a metabolite. Tacrin is an agonist atropine (relaxes eye muscles for an eye exam) Nucleus accumbens: nucleus accumbens: pleasure center of brain. Precursor: tyrosine (get in diet) add enzyme: tyrosine hydroxylase. Get tyrosine from meat, high in protein. Dat and prozac (an ssri) have exact same outcome. Movement (ocd, exercise, gambling, sex, drugs, video games): this is in the nucleus accumbens. Midbrain substantia nigra for movem ent. Cell bodies of neurons that release 5-ht are found in the brainstem- in the raphe nucleus: neurons that release serotonin (soma from neurons) found in the brain stem in raphe nucleus. Their axons project all over the brain and down the spinal cord.
